In Reply to: Andrew Reed by Bill Dukes of 915

Hello, Bill Dukes -- I hope this is what you need for your Andrew Reed. I have further information on Andrew and Elizabeth if you are interested. How are you descended from them?

- Andrew Reed's military service is shown in "George Rogers Clark and His Men - Military Records 1778 1784, compiled by Margery Heberling Harding, published by the Kentucky Historical Society in 1981. He was shown as a private on:
- "A Pay Role of Capt William McCluers Company of Militia in the County of Jefferson and State of Virginia in Col'n William Linn's Batalion under the Command of Col'n George Rogers Clark Against the Shanaway Indians in the yeare 1780 from the 19th Day of Juley to the 19th day of August. Both days Included."
- Andrew's father-in-law, Joseph Bozorth, shown as Joseph "Bozer" in this record, served as the Lieutenant for this company. (The Bozorth name is sometimes given as Bozier and Bozer.) Listed right next to Private Andrew Reed was Private Isaac "Bozer," who was probably Joseph's youngest brother. Andrew and Isaac earned 2 pounds for their service that month, while Joseph earned 9 pounds, 10 shillings for his service.
- Andrew Reed was also shown as a Private on Capt. John Vertrees' Jefferson County, Virginia Militia on a payroll dated April 24, 1782. This area became the State of Kentucky in 1793. From 1785 to 1791 Andrew's name appears on the Lists of Tithables with the Bozorths in Nelson County, Virginia / later Kentucky. Andrew Reed was also recorded on the tax lists of Hardin County, Kentucky in 1795, 1797 and 1799.

Look forward to hearing from you. -- VirJean Bozarth
