Maryville Enterprise, (Blount Co. TN) Friday, July 28, 1911, Page 1: “Tragedy At Elkmont---W.A. Green of Sevierville, was shot twice last Friday at Elkmont and died from the wounds in a Knoxville hospital on Saturday. The shooting was done by Isaac Bradley. While at Elkmont last Sunday the writer was given the following details: As is the case in almost every killing, whiskey was the cause. A man named McCarter is said to have been employed in the logging camps of Badgett & Ijams. As whiskey is detrimental to work and the cause of many accidents, Messrs Badgett & Ijams use all means possible to prevent its sale, and had employed Green to look after their interests. McCarter had been to the camp and as a result several employees were discharged for drinking and McCarter was arrested. The trial was had on Friday at Elkmont. It seems that Green in order to complete his evidence wanted the trial continued and Bradley on behalf of McCarter wanted the case tried. A dispute between Green and Bradley arose which ended with the fatal shooting. It was difficult to get the particulars but it is said that Bradley shot Green after the latter had cut him. The shooting occurred at noon and Green was taken on the evening train to Knoxville; death occurred Saturday. Green was a citizen of Sevierville to which place his remains were taken for interment.” Notify Administrator about this message?
