Looking for information on Daniel and Hannah Foster Braham, or any ancestor or descendant of theirs. Daniel and Hannah were both born in 1839 in England. Daniel was a cigarmaker, and the family lived in Spitalfields (Tenterground), a district inhabited by poor predominantly Ashkenazi Jews from Holland. Daniel and Hannah had four sons in England (David, John, Charles, and Herman (AKA, Hyman)), then immigrated to the US in 1868, where they settled in Chicago a few years before the Great Fire of 1871. In the US, they had six more children (Abigail, George, Philip, Elizabeth, Muriel, and Susanne). A history of the Blue Island suburb of Chicago published in 1935 mentions that "Daniel Braham ... had a cigarmaking shop of his own in Blue Island" around the turn of the century. Daniel was predeceased by his wife, and he himself passed away around 1914. Any information about any of these Brahams would be greatly appreciated. I am descended from Daniel and Hannah's daughter Abigail, who married Charles Fitch and lived in Jacksonville, IL. Robert Cummings (
