Branch-Grigg/Griegg Puzzle
This thing about Martha, wife of John Branch, really is a mystery and I've certainly not solved it.But some of my information does differ from info. that has been posted.I think probably Robert Grigg would have been too young to have been father of Martha who m. John Branch and was mother of Priscilla and Obedience.
First, according to the abstract by Benjamin Weisiger of the will of Robert Grigg/Griegg -- John Cocke, Thomas Edwards, Jr., Mary Ward and Edward Branch were his GODCHILDREN not grandchildren. In addition, I think there is pretty good evidence that Jane Gower was Robert Grigg's mother-in-law.

"Robert Grigg who marryed Tabitha the orphan of Mr. Abell Gower late of this Coty (sic) decd Doth come into Court and Acknowledge the Rect. of his wives portion, And Accordingly the Sectys are Discharged.20 Day August 1700."

It would seem that by bequeathing Jane Gower "all my lands, goods, and chattels," he was giving back what he had inherited from her daughter Tabitha.
