I do not know the meaning of the name Braunche/Branch but the earlies one in England that I know of is a Robert Braunche, who was mayor of King's Lynn, Norfolk Co., England in about 1364.His likeness, and that of his two wives appears on one of the two largest brasses in England, in the Church
of St. Margaret in the center of King's Lynn.
It apparently was commissioned by Robert Braunche himself in a letter to Flanders. There are three theories as to why it was commissioned. It may celebrate Bobert Braunche's taking office as mayer or the feast of St. Margaret, an annual affair, or the visit of Edward III visit to Kings Lynn in 1343.
The brass is quite impressive. I have been there and photographed it.
I am a descendant of Peter Branch, b. 1601, d. 1638 on board the "Castle". mar to Elizabeth Guillame.
There is some controversy over who the parents of Peter were. Some sources claim the Simon Branch,b. abt 1560 , mar 6 Jun 1585 at Tenterden, Kent,England to Alice Stokes, b. abt 1564., were his parents.
Other sources say that Peter Branch was a son of John Branch, b. abt 1578.This John is a descendant of Richard Braunche, b. before 1500 in Abingdon, Kent, England.A. E. Branch Poulson in her book, "History of the Descendants of Peter Branch", claims that, according to tradition,Richard Braunce was descended from a Norman Knight, one Braunche, who came over to England with William the Conquerer in 1066.
