Thanks for the rapid reply.I got most of my "Baker" family history in handwritten ancestor chart format from my great aunt.I'm just now starting to confirm the data. That chart shows an Elsie Baker as one of 5 children of Col. John Baker and Martha Frazier. The children are (all estimated births between 1822 and 1833):
Mary
Elsie
Charles
John
DeWitt (my gr. gr. grandfather)
[I found an 1850 Census record for Jefferson County TN which shows John 50, Martha 50 with sons John 20 and DeWitt 16 living with Eliza 74 and William 12 Frazier]
This coincides with my family "lore" as remembered by my father.
I then found the Branner connection from an online family history book:
BRANNER, John Casper, geologist, was born in New Market, Tenn., July 4, 1850; son of Michael T. and Elsie (Baker) Brenner; grandson of Casper Brenner; and a descendant of Casper Branner of Virginia. He was graduated from Cornell university, B.S., in 1874; was assistant geologist to the Imperial geological survey of Brazil, 1875-'78;...
I have yet to find any records that confirm the name Elsie.
I'll keep looking though :-)
