I recently ran across the Book "The Early Settlers of Maryland" that included a note that Edmund Brannock immigrated to Maryland in 1666 with his wife Jane. The name was spelled Brannough in the book.
I also had a chance to leaf through a number of volumes in a UK library on names and there appears to be a consensus, or at least a reptitious error, that the Brannock name evolved from the name Breat(h)nach which meant generally "Welshman" or "Briton".Since the name was mentioned in several volumes, it appears that it may be more common than often suggested, particularly in Wales, Cornwall and in parts of Ireland.
There were, of course, those who said "no, not true".One suggested that Brannock is a "toponymic", that is it refers to a place, and is different from Brannagh which originated with the name Breathnach.
Anyway, thought I would mention it.
