William Braswell/Sarah Braswell/Vick. and John & Alice & Richard Braswell.
Posted by: jane doe (ID *****6587) Date: September 29, 2011 at 11:14:20
  of 1257

Point: Richard Braswell D'cd 1745 is likely connected to John and Alice Braswell of IOW/Southampton VA, how the Vick family shows Sarah married to William Braswell was likely a VICK maiden name for her and the possibility that Braswell research should look into the NASH co NC Braswells as stemming from William and Sarah (Vick) Braswell and how this William Braswell, son of Richard Braswell IOW/Southampton is likely grandson/grandnewphew of John and Alice Braswell.

Nash NC Deed Book 2 page 226

State of NC grant to thomas hunter Nov. 10, 1779. 702 acres on NS Stoney Creek adjoining William Hunt, SAMUEL BRASWELL, RICHARD VICK, Thomas Willis, Hartwell Hart and his own line.

This Richard VICK above is Richard Vick JR who is the son of Richard Vick SR D'cd Southampton VA by 1750's (see his Will below). The following Richard VICK is Richard Vick SR the father of the Richard Vick JR:

IOW Deed Book 6 page 116
George Bell of Edgecombe NC to Richard Vick IOW May 27, 1745 for 200 acres on Nottoway Swamp land purchased of Thomas Crafford. adj. Vick, Bardin's Branch, said Bell, Richard Brasswell, and Flaggy Run Swamp. Wit Arthur Washington, Sarah Washington, RICHARD VICK JR, and William Brasswell (X).

BELOW are more interesting connections between the IOW/Southampton VICK family and the NASH co NC BRASWELL family:

Isle of Wight Deed Book 7
March 12, 1748 Joseph Braswell and wife Sarah and William Braswell and wife Sarah to Richard Vick 100 acres adjoining Nottoway Swamp and THOMAS CRAFFORD. witnesses John Darden, William Bidgood and Matthew Griffin. signed Joseph (his mark (X) Braswell and William (his mark (X) Braswell.

IOW VA Deed Book 7 page 456
Joseph Vick and wife Margaret to William Edmonds. May 14, 1747 for 122 acres adjoining Burnt post branch, Beaver Dam Swamp, John Beal, Davis and Said Edmonds and Benjamin Beal. Witness by Thomas Adams, Richard Brock and Matthew Griffin.

(Author's note: Richard Brock is son of Robert Brock and his wife Susannah Towle who married in IOW VA 1690s, she is NOT Susannah Braswell mentioned in Will of Richard Towel IOW VA 1690s). SEE additional notes at bottom of this posting for more on Brock.

Nash County NC Deed Book 1 page 268
David Daniel & wife Magdalane of Nash to Lewis Vick of Southampton VA Feb. 24, 1784 for 80 pounds 100 acres adjoining lands of Young and Lake it being part of a grant to William Braswell on July 24, 1761. Witness Benjamin Vick and John Vick

NASH NC DB 6 page 209 Thomas Hart of Nash to Lewis Vick of same. Dec. 29, 1795 for $5 one acre of land with Mill NC Hartwell's Spring Branch Witness Dempsy BRASWELL and Archibald Griffin

Nash County NC Deed Book 1 page 266
Thomas Hunter of Nash to John Vick of same Jan 6, 1784 for 5 shillings a tract NS Stoney Creek Adjoining David Daniel, William Braswell, Thomas Willis and Edward Wilson JR. Witness Wilson Vick and Benjamin Vick

NASH COUNTY NC estates:
Sarah Braswell Jan. 7 1806 inventory by JOHN VICK Administrator. (see Nash county Vick postings made for JOHN VICK). author's note: this Sarah Braswell appears to be the wife of William Braswell mentioned above with Richard Vick in IOW records. Benjamin Vick in Nash co NC is son of Richard Vick:

Sarah Braswell, wife of Nash co NC William Braswell likely had VICK has her maiden name.

This author is under the impression that Richard Braswell (father of William and Joseph Braswell IOW/Southampton VA) is directly connected to John and Alice Braswell (IOW/SouthamptonVA) due to Richard Braswell's land being adjacent to Nottoway River and "Doctor's Branch/School House Branch" where John and Alice Braswell lived. This Richard Braswell also had the "Browns" as neighbors, of which the same "Brown family" owned land next to John and Alice Braswell. It's this Author's impression that Richard Braswell has been mis-appropriated into the wrong line of DNA tested Braswells and should be corrected, especially since this "Richard Braswell" line is as the Nash co NC Braswell line. Without making the crucial correction in this early Braswell line, other problems will be caused for all Braswell subsequent lines of research.

NASH COUNTY NC RECORDS

DB 5 page 191 Richard Vick D'cd. Oct 1, 1808: division of estate. 59 1/2 acres to Benjamin Vick land ajd. Mill Branch and Braswell. Asael Vick 59 1/2 adj. Mill Branch, John Vick and Willis. Charity BECKWITH, husband of Sion Beckwith 106 acres adjoining John Vick and Edward Wilson.

(Author's note: this is Richard Vick JR, son of Richard Vick SR from IOW/Southampton VA to Nash co NC: Vick family boards online say it is). Did he have a daughter named Sarah who married William Braswell and did Richard Vick outlived his daughter sarah and thus why she is not in his division of his land/estate? Is the John Vick mentioned in the estate of Sarah Braswell her brother also the son of Richard Vick?

To Sum up, it is this Author's belief that the Nash co NC Braswells stemmed from the William and Joseph Braswell (wives both named Sarah) of which William's wife was likely Sarah Vick, with the other Sarah possibly being Sarah Vaughn and of which the subsequent Braswells of Nash co NC came from this patriarch Richard Braswell D'cd of IOW/Southampton NC by 1745 a will signed by JOSEPH WOODWARD: Richard Braswell D'cd 1745 likely grandfather of Benjamin Braswell, Samuel Braswell and other Braswells of NASH co NC. Because of the Woodard/Woodward family, the Brown family the VICK family and land records of John and Alice Braswell AND Richard Braswell of IOW/Southampton NC it shows a pattern of likely connections to that of Richard Braswell who died 1745 and to John and Alice Braswell of Nottoway River and the NASH co NC Braswells. Braswell researchers should take a long look at your Braswell found on the web as possibly NOT being what they are currently thought to be. "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, knowledge is in the soul of the reader".
