On Sep. 13, 1773, RICHARD Braswell (IV) "of Dobbs County" relinquished to THOMAS FARMER the tract that his late father Richard Braswell (III) had bought, from Ephraim Ponder in 1765 (Edgecombe Co., NC Deed Book 2-88; Deed Book C, p. 379).
Apparently the deed does not specifically say Elizabeth Farmer was his sister, but a careful reading of this deed would be in order.Apparently this is the primary record indicating that Isaac Farmer's wife Elizabeth was the daughter Elizabeth that Richard Braswell III mentioned in the will simply as his daughter Elizabeth.
The will was made in Edgecombe County, NC on 7 Dec 1767, and probated January 1772.The three daughters listed in the will, Elizabeth, Sarah, and Mary, are all listed by their first names only, and the will not state that they are minors.According to researchers' postings on the internet, these girls were all in their later 20s and 30s by this time (I don't know how these ages are calculated, though; I suppose based on the ages of the sons).
According to this list of Richard & Elizabeth Bryant Braswell's children, compiled by somebody on the internet, the daughter Mary was the younger of the daughters and married when she was about 26-27, which might be accurate, but might be too old.She could as easily have been the youngest child.None of these ages look like they follow the naming order given in the will, so I don't know what the ages are based on.
In the will, he left five shillings to each of the daughters and all the sons except Sampson and Solomon. To his wife and these two sons, he left three different plantations. As he was rather affluent and did a lot of land speculation, I would theorize that Sampson and Solomon might be two younger sons or that Richard Braswell perhaps had given property to the other children already.
