Hi Michael-thanks for responding so quickly.Russia and Germany invaded and took over Moldova region in Roumania. At times people who came thru Ellis Island said they were Russian not Roumanian depending on who invaded at the time. On My Father Robert's Birth Certificate and Morris put down he was Roumanian ,not Russian as he was listed in the Ellis Island Archives. Also, when my father was born in 1924 they changed their family name to Brown.I have found more information over the weekend-that the ledger at Ellis Island mispelled the name of the town my Grandfather Morris Bruanstein came from- is Kishinev. There was a Pogram in 1905 where many Jewish people were killed and injured. This coincides w/ Morris leaving this same town to immigrate to America. I found this info om Wikipedia. Thanks, Susan
