I grew up hearing that the Braytons (my grandmother's family) were French Hugonats who had fled from persecution througout Europe, landed in England and then came to America. The spelling was changed to Brayton when they came here. Unfortunately, the stories I heard were verbal, so I don't know what the original spelling was. It was pronounced Bre-TON'.

I don't know how true this was.. it was "family history"
