Brayton-Gideon & Thomas graves found
Posted by: Anne Dickinson Date: August 14, 2001 at 13:01:26

After 3 hours of stomping through hay fields and bushes, my cousin Linda and I located the graves of: Gideon Brayton d. 1792, his wife Rebecca, d. 1806 and their son, Thomas Brayton, d. 1810 and his wife, Jane, d. 1832.

These are the graves that are identified in Clifford Brayton's History book as being in Brayton's Crossing, which is now called Baldwin's corners. I have taken pictures and am willing to share them with anyone who wants them. Send me email and I'll be happy to send the pictures to you when I have the film developed.

The graves are in a sad condition, totally overgrown, fox (or someother large creature) holes in them, the stones slanting, etc.

We will be returning to spruce it up and are considering having a brass plate or learn how to do the stone carving ourselves and make a monument to them. It is a shame that the graves of our ancestors (and such brave people) (see my Treasure post) have been so ignored. We are also considering an iron fence, depending on cost. I'll keep y'all posted on this.

It was so exciting to find them, I can't even put it into words.
Anne Dickinson
