I came across a lengthy newspaper article in the Chicago Press and Tribune dated Nov 30, 1859 quoting from the Tiftin, Ohio, Tribune that told of the 20 September 1825 kidnapping by Indians of a boy named Matthew BRAYTON, age between 7 and 8, the son of Elijah BRAYTON of Springville, Ohio. He and an older brother had been sent out for cows and Matthew had been kidnapped at that time. For years he was moved from tribe to tribe and learned to speak five different languages. On several occasions he came in contact with whites who told him that he was a white man. They tried to rescue him but to no avail.

In August of 1859 newspapers were reporting that he was then at Cleveland searching for his relatives. By Nov 15th he was at Sugar Grove, Warren County, PA who immediately started him for Adrian where he was visited by many people. He stated that he had married the daughter of the Grand Chief seven years ago. He has two children, a daughter named Tefrona (Tame Deer), age 5 and a son Tulloosa, two years old. Hope this information will help someone.
