I do not find a Joseph Brayton who was born in 1840 in Franklin County, NY, but I could have his father or grandfather in my list. Do you know what his father's name was? Joseph was in the same generation as my great grandfather Henry Brayton, who moved from Glens Falls, NY to Joliet, IL in the mid-1800's. I don't have a complete listing of my ggrandfather's siblings' children, or the children of his aunts and uncles. There were many children in many generations of Braytons who had moved to New York from Rhode Island around the Revolutionary War period, and it could be your ancestor is among these other branches of the family. If you know anyone before Joseph, I could check to see if I have that name. Good luck with your hunt.
