Most of the information you posted is correct. The error in what you posted is that Joseph (b1743 d1805), David (b1745 d1790, constitution signer) and Zerujah (b1746 d1826) were brothers and sister but they were not the children of John Brearley and Sarah Woods. They are 3 of the 5 children of David A. Brearley (b1703 d1785) and Mary Clark (b1702 d1771). This David A. Brearley was a son of John Brearley (b1645 d1720) and Sarah Woods (b1670 d 1731).

Your Joseph Brearley who died on Oct. 17, 1785 in Sweet Arrow Creek in Pennsylvania and husband of Lydia Colborn was a son of John (d1784) and Pheobe Brearley. John was a son of Joseph (b1705 d1740) and Phebe Brearley. Joseph was a son of John and Sarah Woods Brearley and was a brother to David A. Brearley.

The Family History Archives has a genealogy chart of the Brearley family written by William H. Brearley in 1886. This chart can be accessed online at

John, Joseph and David are very common names in the Brearley family so it is very easy to confuse the generations. Hope this info helps clear it up for you. If you need any additional information, feel free to email me directly.
