I have researched this reported Breedlove connection for almost 50 years now and have never found any proof for it.
What primary source gives the name of William Dowell's wife
as a Breedlove? There are only two Julia or Judith Breedlove's in Virginia before 1800, one born in 1732 and the other in 1771, neither of them would be a likely candidate for a wife for William Dowell born in 1755 in Orange Co., VA. Both Julia and Judith were married and neither lived in Orange or Albemarle counties. The one born in 1732 may have lost her husband and she remarried to this William Dowell, but she would have been beyond child bearing age. Most researchers contend that all of the children of William Dowell were by his 2nd wife Judah Sarey (sp?).There is a Breedlove connection as Rachel Baber, dau of George Baber and Rachel Dowell, married to Archeleus Thomas. His brother Carver Thomas married to Susannah Watts whose sister Mary Watts married to William Breedlove
from Albemarle county.William and Mary Watts Breedlove are my direct ancestors and I got into the SAR on the
Revolutionary War service of this William Breedlove in 1972.
