Hi Dan
I'm a distant relative of Daniel Breen-he was from Donohill,Co. Tipperary-to correct a few minor misconceptions-as far as I know, he wasn't connected with the Easter Rising. He did, however, fire the first shots in the Irish War of Independence on Jan 31,1919, when he and Sean Treacy shot several policemen and hijacked a cartload of dynamite intended for a local quarry.
As O/C of the IRA's Third Tipperary Brigade,he led the most infamous of the "flying columns", which harassed and ambushed British forces in North Tipperary. After the Treaty, he sided with the Republicans. To the best of my knowledge, there is nothing out there linking him to the death of Michael Collins.
Later in life, Dan became a TD(the Irish version of a US congressman)from Tipperary.
His autobiography,"My fight for Irish freedom" is available through Amazon.com(just click on the link)

All the Best
