Clorean Sharp Breen - 1913-2005 - Obituary, Raton, New Mexico
Clorean Breen
Clorean (Rean) Breen, 91, of Raton, and a former Liberal, Kan., area resident, died Jan. 20, 2005 at Miners’ Colfax Medical Center in Raton. Rean was born Sept. 21, 1913, at her childhood home in the Floris, Okla., area to Sidney and Marnie Sharp. She married Charles (Chuck) Breen Dec. 23, 1935, and they enjoyed 57 years of devotion, love and laughter together.
Rean graduated from Phillips University in Enid, Okla., with a language degree in English, Spanish and French, and she could still correct others’ grammar to the end. She taught school at the Greenough School northwest of Forgan, Okla., where Chuck also taught, coached and served as the superintendent. Throughout their careers in education, they took the graduating classes on trips all across the country.
Then they bought Rean’s uncle’s farm in the Blue Bell area east of Liberal, Kan. They farmed for 42 years there, as well as in Beaver County, Okla. During those years, she and Chuck raised and showed registered cocker spaniels, raised Black Angus cattle and cultivated wheat and milo crops. They also raised two children and were mentors to many others.
Over the years, people of many nationalities and faiths were treated to Rean’s fine cooking as guests on the farm.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Jim Cooper of Raton; brother William R. Sharp and wife Joanie of the Houston area; granddaughter Alisa Cooper of New York City and grandson Timothy Cooper of Dallas; nephews Roger Sharp of Boulder, Colo., Jim Bush of Woodward, Okla., and Bill Niemeir of Norman, Okla.; nieces Susan Nobles of Corpus Christi, Texas, Eddie Jean Long of Clayton, Barbara Sue Ray of Albuquerque, and several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Dennis Michael, and her husband Chuck in 1993.
There will be a family graveside service at the Floris Cemetery in Beaver County, Okla., at a later date. Because of Rean’s lifelong commitment to education, in lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorials be give to the Breen Scholarship Fund, Trinidad State Junior College Educational Foundation, 600 Prospect St., Trinidad, Colo., 81082, or to the charity of your choice.
The arrangements are under the direction of the Yaksich-Long Funeral Home of Raton.
