The following text was transcribed from an old letter in the possession of Claris Taylor, daughter of O. Curtis Taylor. This letter was written by a brother of Luke Breese. Luke Breese was her (Claris) Great Grandfather. This copy has had the spelling corrected for ease of reading.

August 26, 1841

Dear brother, it is with pain that I take my pen in hand to inform you of the death of my affectionate wife.

On the 21st I buried her after a long and severe spell. She was confined to her bed 13 weeks and 3 days. I had 3 Dr.ís to tend to her but all could not save her. Was the consumption. She left me and my little boy to mourn her loss, the loss that I shall never again restore in this life. Tho my loss was her gain, for she professed religion before she died. She said that she saw her way bright to heaven and prayed day after day that all her friends might meet her in heaven.

She told me to write to you all and tell you to meet her in heaven. Wish parting would be no more forever.

Luke Breese you must take good care of your wife for you have got a good one and so had I but she has gone to where no traveler returns.

I would have been glad to fetch her to see you all , but did not till it was too late, but I mean to fetch my little boy as soon as he gets big enough to come. If he lives. Grandmother has got him now and will keep him as long as I want her too.

I have got a young women and one old woman to keep house for me. I still allow for keeping house for the times is hard. Not a lot of money but I have plenty of provisions to live on for one year yet.

I want you to give my love to the old neighbors in your country. I am doing very well considering the times.

I and my little boy are well at this time and hope these few lines
may find you and yours the same.

I have written to father and to William Breese. I want you to give my love to R.O. Pinkerton and the folks in McConnelsville.

Write as soon as you get this and let me know how you are ,now moved to Preston.

Herein is a small lock of her hair for Polly to remember her with.

I still remain your Affectionate Brother,

A . Breese
