I'm glad there is someone else out there who doesn't believe the Sidney Breese story. There just isn't any solid evidence to back it up. If you are looking for John's ancestors I believe they lie in the same roots as Timothy just in a different branch. We can positively put Cornelius Brees as a landowner/resident in 1720 on Dead River area of Basking Ridge twp. What are the chances there are others with the same unusual surname in the same township at the same time. I believe that John is probably also descended either from Cornelius Brees or from one of his brothers Jurian or Folkert (Volkert) who had sons settle in Somerset County. It will be hard to decipher as the records aren't very good but that is my focus at this time.
