"D.J. Bresee Passes at 85 - Donnelly J. Bresee, 84, a Delhi Stage businessman for nearly sixty years until his retirement in 1962, died September 26 in Fox Hospital, Oneonta, following a lengthy illness.
       Funeral services were held Saturday in the Lewis Funeral Home, Oneonta, with Andrew C. Lang officiating. Burial was in Oneonta Plains Cemetery.
       Mr. Bresee was born in Davenport December 14, 1878, son of Elbert and Eugenia (Utter) BRESEE. On November 4, 1903 he married Grace A. Stewart in the Town of Meredith.
       Mr. Bresee attended Cornell University to learn cheese and butter making and in 1902 started work as a milk peddler in Oneonta. Two years later, he started work for a cooperative creamery in Meredith, which folded after a year.
       The farmers prevailed on him to take over the business, opening in the place where he subsequently conducted business for many years and which had been a creamery forced out of business by the cooperative.
       He manufactured butter for some 15 years, but his last year there he only shipped cream. Shortly after opening the creamery, he also opened a grocery store.
       He drew his creamery products to Delhi by horse and wagon, and yielding to the pleas of his customers, frequently brought back bags of feed, etc. It happened so often he finally entered the feed and grain business.
       Mr. Bresee was a member of Ouleout Valley Methodist Church, a 50 year member of the Oneonta Lodge, F & AM, a member of several farm organizations.
       He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Edna Gladstone Benedict, Delhi Stage, and Mrs. Iona McDonald, Casa Grande. Ariz.; four grandchildren, Walter and Carol Gladstone, Andes, Mrs. Gloria Hendricks, Cooperstown, Mrs. Dawn Van Zandt and Douglas McDonald, Casa Grande, Ariz; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
