Hope: If you don't already have this information, Nathan is definitely the son of Michael and Annis. From my notes for Michael Bresee: Michael was in Delaware Co, NY in 1800; Penfield, Ontario Co, NY (parts of lot 27 were purchased in 1814 and 1817-from "Northfield on the Genesee") in 1810 (also from Ontario Co Deed Book 34, p. 334: Michael Bresee and Annis, his wife, of Penfield sold to Herrington Baker of same for $830, land in T13 R4 being 50 acres of the N end of the E side of the NW Division of Lot 27 on 3 April 1819); Rockdail, Crawford Co, PA in 1820; and Richmond, Crawford Co, PA in 1830. We know from the family history written by his grandson, James Michael Bresee (son of Elma Dorous)in 1924 that Michael had a dau "named Marinda, who was highly educated for those days, learned and practiced shorthand writing and taught school, but she died while she was quite young. Another dau married a man by the name of Yocum. There were also three boys, Benjamin, Elma Dorous (James Michael's father), and Nathan, the youngest in the family." About the time Elma Dorous reached manhood, his father Michael was "killed by a fall from a wild horse he was breaking to ride. He fell from the horse onto a stump of a tree that had long sharp splinters sticking up. These ran through his body inflicting mortal wounds." This must have been shortly after 1830.
Crawford Co, PA Court Records Renunciations: Michael Bresee of Richmond Twp: Benjamin Bresee, one of the heirs, desires Gold M. Lord and Oscar F. Glidden, 19, Nov, 1839, witness Benjamin F. Share. Filed 22 Nov 1839 Reg. Dk 1:143.
Data from a Bible then available on ebay, via Adrian Brisee on GenForum (see enclosure): Michael Bresee, b. Feb 29, 1776; Annis, b. Nov 2, 1777; Polly, b. May 22, 1796; Marinclia, (Marinda) b. Sep 19, 1800; Elizabeth, b. Jul 4, 1802; Elina D. (Elma Dorous) b. Jun 13, 1804; Benjamin, b. Jul 23, 1806; Annis, b. Jul 14, 1808; Nathan, b. Oct 9, 1810; Sally b. Mar 9, 1815.
I haven't worked on this family in years, but if you're interested, I have tons of data going back to Christopher, born about 1646. My dubious connection to the family is my 3rd great grandfather William Bresee, who is, I believe but can't prove, the younger brother of Michael, Nathan's father. William lived about 5 miles from Elma Dorous, Michael's son, in Illinois. Let me know if you want more information.
