Pierre Breyer, NYC, 1886

I have a photo amidst Greatgrandmother's papers:
In commemoration of Gretchen and Pierre Breyer
New York, 26 May 1886
I think this is probably the wedding picture of Margaritha (Gretchen for short) Epp and Pierre Breyer. By 1889, the woman is in Philadelphia, giving birth to a daughter. By 1906 the woman is in San Francisco and the man is either missing or dead. He may have died in NY, Philadelphia, or on the way to CA. No one out here ever knew of him or met him, but the daughter bore his last name.

Does any of this ring any bells in anyone data?
