Hi,
I'm writing to you... from Brussels, Belgium (between Germany and France and the Netherlands). My dad, Giovanni Brigandi, born in Messina in 1938, came to Belgium as a young man. Now, thanks to him, we are quite a few Brigandi's, four children and a grand-daughter of his. What I can tell you is that the Brigandi's which we know from Sicily apparently have their origin in a Celtic tribe which went to live in Northern Italy, in a region called Brianza at that time. Later on, that tribe moved south to Calabria and Sicily's mountains and robbed off tarvellers. So there is a direct link between the name and the "profession" of brigand = bandit!
Feel free to write back, this is my first contact with fellow Brigandis :-)
Manuela
