Hi Patricia,
The marriage is on the Free BMD as 1838, Dec(4th quarter)Aston under Lyne, folio 20 page 5.

and the IGI records say they were married 21st Oct 1838, St Michael's, Ashton under Lyne, Lancs.

If you send for their marriage certificate, you might get some helpful information such as the age of the couple when they married and the father's name and occupation. As you have the folio and page number it costs less to get a full marriage certificate.
They might be on the 1841 census too. You may be able to have request a 'look up' for that area.
