Dear Elaine, John, born 16.3.1792 and bapt at St James, Audley, 25.3.1792, was the son of William Brindley and Ann Sproson. John joined the 2nd Regiment of Life Guards in 1818 and served until 1841. William (married to Ann) was bapt in 1767 at Audley and was the son of Thomas=Hawley Ellen/Ellin. Thomas was son of Richard=Hall Elizabeth. Richard married in 1715 at Audley. I have found no links to James Brindley, canal engineer, but that doesn't mean there weren't any. The problem is the scant amount of data surviving from that period. Good luck, Gordon Brindley.
