On further investigation, John was made constable of Beeston castle in 1361 not 1359 as I first thought, sorry! John was a clerk for the church and in wartime a Cheshire Archer. It looks more likely that John was made constable by the Black prince for a later involvement during the hundred years war and perhaps not Poitiers in 1356.
However, the constable of Beeston castle in 1359 prior to John de Brundelegh's constableship, was Robert de Haughton who was on the campaign of 1355/56. Robert was also once constable of Chester Castle. This Robert de Haughton's mother was Amelia Brindley, daughter of Richard de Brundelegh, she had married Henry de Haughton c1313.
