Brinleys in KY -- messages in this forum

I read the messages started by Jody Thomson with interest. Does anyone have any connection to my Brinleys in Tennessee?

My great-great-grandfather was Stephen Brindley. (Name is also spelled Brinley, as you all do, or Brenley, Brendley, Brinlee, etc.) Stephen was born around 1810 (don't have my notes in front of me) probably in Smith Co, TN, and md. Mary (Polly) Horton. They had a mooseful of kids, one of whom was my great-grandmother, Martha Emeline Brindley. Martha md. Isaac Montgomery Robinson and the line descended from there. Martha died in the flu epidemic in 1918 and is buried in Jackson Co, TN

Stephen and his family (and a bunch of other male Brindleys that I hypothesize are brothers or cousins) lived in Smith Co, TN for generations, then Stephen was found in Putnam Co.

No one has been able to go any further back than Stephen. Family tradition has it that Stephen once said his mother "was a DeRossett", but that's too thin to go on. We have no definitive birth, death, or burial info on him.

One interesting point - I was in TN earlier this month and happened to meet a Brindley cousin in Chestnut Mound. She is descended from one of Martha's brothers, Elijah Brindley. Elijah was married to Mary Etta Smith, who my new-found cousin told me was a full-blooded Cherokee. Elijah and Mary Etta are buried in the Methodist Church cemetery in Chestnut Mound.

Is there any connection between my Stephen Brindley and Mary (Polly) Horton and your KY, TX, AR Brinleys?
