Joe-Mae, you'll probably find that your Brintnall name is descended from a Brentnall not a Britnell; the 1881 census gives over 900 matches for a mix of Britnell/Brentnall names as the CD programme searches for them together, it lumps together similar names for search purposes. A quick flit through the 900+ entries suggests that probably two-thirds or more are Brentnells or Brentnalls. Britnell, Britnel and Britnall are almost exclusively from Buckinghamshire or Oxfordshire with some moving in to London in the 19th century; I do not think you will find any outside those areas prior to the 19th century so early entries in Lincolnshire are probably a different name.
