In New Mexico during the 18th century craftsman lived in certain neighborhoods and had guildlike relationships. The Britos were carpenters in Santa Fe living close to and intermarrying with the Riveras and Ortegas who were also craftsman. This kept the secrets in the family. They lived in the Barrio of San Francisco.
