The Britton International DNA Project offers free or low-cost DNA testing to qualified participants:

Free DNA Test for UK Participant from Family Group 1:

Family Group 1 is offering a free 37 marker Y-DNA test to anyone who matches this family and can provide information which conclusively identifies the English ancestors of John Britton who was born in England c 1672/3 and was living in Henrico Co., VA. by 1684. By the late 1690's John had moved up the Chickahominy River to a place called Pickanockey where he may have married a relative or friend of Hugh Jones. Jones died in the spring of 1705, devising part of his land to John Britton's sons William and John, Jr. Other sons include James Britton d 1798 Henrico, Henry Britton, and possibly Royal Britton who died in Halifax Co in 1763. James Britton may have male-line descendants living today through his grandson John Britton and wife Mary Baker.

Members of Group 1 include the descendants of William Britton who died in Chesterfield Co., VA in 1793 and William Britton who died in Halifax Co., VA in 1798.

Special Discounts on Testing for Family Group 5:

Group 5 offers limited financial assistance on Family Tree DNA tests for Britton males who provide evidence of descent from or kinship to early Group 5 Britton families. Special consideration will be given to Brittons with proof of descent from WIlliam or Nathaniel Britton of Staten Island, NY, and their ancestors in Batcombe, Somerset, who are believed to be related to the Brittons of Group 5.

Group 5 includes the descendants of James Britton bc 1705 and his wife Mary Witty and a number of other closely related families who do not descend from James and Mary.

Preapproval is required.

Pedigrees for Groups 1 and 5 may be found on the Patriarchs' Page of the Britton International DNA Project:
