From several census I have concluded that Mary Newman's Father was George W Newman, Mother Mary Hargrave. George was living in White county in 1850 and 1860 with Mary and children. Mary Elizabeth, b 1857, d 1943; Marilla b. abt 1857, Laura b. abt 1853; William b. abt 1859. In 1870 Mary is head of household with above children. 1880 she is living with Martin Luther and Mary E.
George W Newman died 6 Mar 1865 in Annapolis Md and I believe is burried in the national cem there. His brother Albert, according to a history of Enfield IL, and he were captured the same day and were in Andersonville. George may have been "paroled" and died in a Hosp in Annapolis. Many others from Andersonvile did. George's parents I believe are Thomas Newman and Susan Wicker. Look at Familysearch file afn:5d22-cc family id 102009 for Thomas Newman.
