I have a James Bromley that married an Elizabeth (Elisabeth) and had a son called Edward Foord Bromley in 1776 and arrived in Tasmania, Australia as surgeon on several ships. Edward had a brother Samuel who was also a surgeon with the RN. Given that the first borns carried the fathers name, I wonder if your James (& Elizabeth) was the first born on my James and a brother of Edward and Samuel. Let me know if you have any other info. Edwards Birth was at St Nicholas in Rochester, Kent.
