Thanks for the information about Christopher Brooke. Good sleuthing!
James V. Brooke, "Ancestry and Biography of Hon. James Vass Brooke, of Warrenton, VA,"_Fauquier Historical Society_ (undated), pp. 461-463, says that Robert BROOKE, Gent. (b. 1654, d. 1712), was commissioned Justice of Old Rappahannock Co. (now Essex) by Gov. Nicholson in 1692. He was the son of "William BROOKE, Clerk of the Court of Old Rappahannock Co. in 1665. Who the parents of this William Brooke were is not known. There were as many as twenty Brookes who had emigrated to Virginia prior to 1665" (no source given).
JVB doesn't say why he thinks Robert of Essex Co was the son of William the Justice of Old Rap. Co. Have you seen any evidence to lead in that direction? Or any reason to believe JVB's 1654 birthdate for Robert I was correct?
