My husband's great grandfather was Alford Alpha Layton. He was born in Washington Co. Ga in 1828. His parents are unknown but according to some records His parents were born in NC.
I know this is Brookins gen forum but bear with me.The next record of Alford
/Alfred A. Layton is in Muscogee Co Ga. where the census(1850) taker spelled his name Laython. He was living with a free slave and others by the name of Brookin. Now we know that many times slaves took the names of their owners.According to some records, Benjamin Brookins had about 7 slaves. I am trying to fill the gaps. Young AA Layton was 22 yrs. old, white and from Washington Co. Ga. Cannot find anything on him prior to 1850. Would appreciate any guidance.
