There was a Martha Brookins living near my E.B. (Edward Burton) Brookins in Little Rock during the 1840 and 1850 censuses. In 1850, my Brookins were on page 351 while Martha, on page 358, was the 46-year-old head of household with a 23-year-old Sarah (?) and an 18-year-old Henry. Martha's birthplace is listed as Virginia while Sarah's is, I think, Alabama and Henry's is Tennessee. Despite the proximity, as far as I know, my Brookins were not related to these Brookins, and my Brookins ended up moving to California by 1860.
