Hello Bev
I found this posting by chance. I have read lots of speculation about John Bruffey but I have not heard about any documentation regarding his dates and origin other than his tombstone. In the National Archives the Revolutionary records have his pay slips and muster roles. If there is anything earlier I would love to hear about it. The first sign I can find of the man is when he signed up for service in 1776 at Ft. Ticonderoga.. not anywhere near VA. A Pennsylvania regiment was on site and that is why he signed up with PA regiment. I have copied all the documents on his revolutionary service. I can dig them out if anyone doesn't have the details.
Question 2 on John Bruffey II, census records (they can be completely inaccurate, evidence my own mother)show him claiming MD as birth place in 1790. Of course the MD line was under dispute for some time and John might not have known. You show a different date. And more siblings than the usual Patrick, John, Mark. I would love to know more!
