Notes:Andrew Jackson BRUMLEY was born in Kentucky in 1827. Pioneer families often named their children after national heroes and Andrew Jackson was certainly one 1827. Although he was not the president yet, he was the hero of "The Battle of New Orleans" during the War of 1812. Andrew Jackson was the son of Daniel BRUMLEY who was an early settler of the area before Miller County came into existence.
Andrew married Hariett/Hester COCHRAN in Miller Co, MO August 1846. Andrew and Hester were the parents of 6 children.
When the Civi War began, Andrew became a soldier in CO H 6th Regt Missouri Cavalry and enlisted at Rolla on December 28,1861, for 3 years. He was not able to serve his full 3 years because he died of congestive chills while stationed at St. Charles Bluff on the White River in northern Arkansas in January 1863. Back in Missouri, Hester and her 6 children were left alone which was the fate of many pioneer women in those days. She remained a widow for 13 years and never remarried. She died at her home on October 3, 1876. All her children were married by that time except James, who was a small child when his father died.
Since James was a minor, his brother John BRUMLEY was appointed his guardian and they applied for "Minor's Pension" for James from his father's service. Others that helped obtain the pension for James were Squire John FERGUSON, James M. HAWKINS, Zebedee SPEARMAN, Nancy A. SHELTON, William DIAL, Sarah A. ZUMWALT,(who acted as midwife at James birth in 1861), Elmina M. SHELTON, Milla A. CARTER, Jesse M. MARSHALL, H.J. Luttrell, John BRUMLEY, Issac ZUMWALT, D. MARSHALL, George BIRDSONG, Marcum SHELTON, C.J. THOMPSON, Silas CAPPS, and Joshua D. COCKRON
