Hello Jack. My 4th greatgrandfather was John Brunton born at Newbattle, Midlothian 27 December 1714. His parents were Thomas Brunton & Jean Duncan.
His chidren were
Janet Brunton born1750 West Calder Midlothian
Married Peter Muir 6 April 1771 St. Cuthberts Edinburg
Grizell Brunton born March 1752 West Calder
married James Deckman 1769. They sailed from Grennock to Salem Mass. April 1776 & came to Nova Scotia when the British evacuated New York. She died in Halifax County Nova Scotia in 1829
Thomas Brunton May 1754 West Calder
Alexander Brunton May 1756 West Calder
Thomas Brunton 1759 West Calder. He is my third GG. He was in Halifax Nova Scotia in 1785 perhaps earlier. He married Mary Wikins in Halifax in 1789. They had three children born at Halifax. About 1794 he moved to Mid Stewiacke, NS About this time he changed the name to Brenton which it has been since. All his children used the name of Brenton. A son James was born at Mid Stewacke in 1798. I descend from this line. I have tried many times to get a line on the other children espeially Janet, Alexander & the Jean born in Edinburg. Are any of these names familiar to you.
John Brenton had two more children both named Jean. One born 1762 in West Calder & one born11 July 1768 St Cuthberts Edinburg>
