Dear Linda,

Hello. It is delightful to hear from you. You wrote that you are Norman's daughter, so I imagine that you are speaking about the Norman Brunton who was the brother of Jack, and son of Leonard Norman Brunton and Doris Bent Pennington (I think that I have the wives of the two Brunton brothers the right way around but my sister-in-law's internet connection is rather slow and so I can't get into ancestry to check my tree).

(Of course, you might mean that you are a daughter of Norman Brunton, son of Edward Allen Brunton, son of Edward Brunton brother of Leonard Norman... if so I apologise for the above assumption.)

I'm not sure how much you know about your family history (the Brunton side of things), but would be more than happy to share with you what I know about your grandfather Leonard Norman's (or great-grandfather Edward's) family.

My connection: my great-grandmother, Elizabeth Rishworth, was the out-of-wedlock daughter of Louisa Rishworth. Louisa later married William Brunton and among their children had George Brunton who was the father of both Edward and Leonard Norman (and other children). Elizabeth was raised by her maternal grandparents, so clearly not William Brunton's daughter. She appears to have known her half siblings and her own children with William Rishworth (who may have been a distant cousin) also knew their Brunton relatives.

Interestingly, Edward and Leonard Norman and their families were not the only members of this family to emigrate to the USA. Their father George had an elder brother also named Edward, a House Painter by trade, who left Wakefield, Yorkshire for Nottingham, presumably for work. There he met and married a Martha Burfield and one of their sons, a George Thomas Brunton also emigrated, first to Canada, then to Detroit, Michigan. His descendants still live in Michigan.

If you are at all interested in any of the material that I have (and for the Rishworths there is quite a bit), I should be more than happy to share it with you and to invite you to my ancestry tree.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,
Anne
