I now live in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada but was born and grew up in Fulford, Brome County, Quebec, Canada which is about 7 miles from where my great-grandparents made a homestead around 1838. Andrew Brunton, born about 1807 in Markinch, I believe, came to Canada with his wife Mary Elizabeth Ruthven Johnson (born in 1800 in Markinch - I have found the christening record in Markinch)and Mary's mother, Jean Duncan (wife of deceased Andrew Johnson). A Canadian census of 1841 says that they had been residents of Canada for 3 years. Jean Duncan was born in 1765 in Scotland. Andrew seems to have had a brother George who also came to Canada and was born in 1798 in Scotland. His wife was Margaret Lau about whom I have no information. I was able to identify Markinch as the place of origin for Andrew and Mary because of Mary's record of birth. Having 2 middle names helps in identifying her, as well as knowing her mother & father's names. However, I have not been able to identify Andrew's birth record definitely although one seems likely. They were buried in the local cemetery where they homesteaded so I have been able to get information from their gravestones. I would very much like to find more information, especially on Andrew, as to who his parents, grandparents, etc. were. Any other info would be very welcome also. Being able to search on the web is wonderful. So are these message boards in being able to contact actual people.
Thanks for any information you may have for me.
