Notes from 1973 correspondence with a Bryarly descendant in the spirit of sharing. Not my line. No further information.

John Logan, Sr., his 3rd great grandfather, b Chester Co. PA, m. Elizabeth Bryarly, born Ireland. Their son John Logan, Jr. b Chester Co PA 1781 and m Ruth Smith in Mason Co KY 1801. John and Ruth had son Abner Logan b 1802 who m his cousin Evaline Pepper in Mason Co 1827.

The Bryarly family settled in what was then Baltimore Co MD, in that part which became Harford Co MD just across the state line from Chester Co PA. John and Elizabeth Logan were in Mason County KY by September 1785 when their son Joseph D. Logan was born in McKinley's Block House, reportedly the first white child born Mason Co KY. Elizabeth Bryarly Logan d sometime before June 1801. John Logan Sr. m Mrs. Mary Thompson, widow of William, in Mason Co where he d intestate December 1817.

Elizabeth Bryarly Logan was mentioned in the will of her father in 1777 and inherited from one of her brothers. A Power of Attorney in which John Logan Sr gave to his son John Jr. the authority to proceed to Maryland to settle an inheritance which Elizabeth had there.

Henery Bryarly Son of Said John was Born ye 21st Day of January 1750
Jean Daughter to Sd John was Born yet 16th Day of may 1753
George Ston to Sd John was Born ye 22 day of February 1755
Izabell Daughter to Sd John was Born ye 2d Day of December 1759
John Bryarly Son to (?) John was Born the (date torn out) Day of January 1762
Richard Bryarly Son to Said John was Born the 22 Day April 1764
Thos Bryarly Son to Said John was Born the 28 Day of January 177(?)."

Will of John Bryarly of Harford Co MD:
Dated January 17, 1777, probated April 5, 1777, Recorded Liber No. 41, Folio 415, 416, Hall of Records, Anapolis, MD.Signed John Bryarly. Executors wife Ann and son Henry.
Wit: Daniel Tredway, Thomas Hope, William Beaty.
"In the name of God Amen I John Briarly of Harford County and Province of Maryland being sick and weak in body but of sound and disposing mind and memory do make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following Viz...

"Imprimis I give and bequeath my soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it and my body to the earth to be decently buried.

"Item after all my just debts is paid I give and bequeath unto my loving wife Ann one third part of my real and personal Estate, togeather with my best bed and Furniture thereunto belonging, togeather with the Bald Horse so called and known by that name with her saddle and bridle.

"Item I give and bequeath unto my loving children namely Margret Cunningham, Elizabeth Logan, Jean Worsley and Robert, each one shilling sterling.

"Item I give and bequeath unto the rest of my children namely Henry George Isabelah John Richard and Thomas an eaqual share or dividend of my Estate to be equally divided between them, one bright bay Colt excepted to be the property of Henry without exception. Also my will and desire is that my beloved wife Ann and Henry my son be whole and sole executors. Also that John Kean be whole and sole Administrator Constitutionaly appointed of my Last Will and Testament.

"In witness whereof I have hereunto set my seal and afixed my name this 17th day of January 1777.

"Signed sealed and delivered in presence of us as the Will of the Testator. John Bryarly (seal). Daniel Tredway. Thomas Hope. William Beaty."

"Affadavit by subscribing witnesses, April 5, 1777.
The Brierly Family
John Brierly was married with Ann Jackman on December 13, 1743; and landed in America on July 28, 1750, from Ireland.
Margaret was born March 23, 1745
Elizabeth was born March 12, 1747
Robert was born April 22, 1749
Henry was born Jan. 21, 1750
Jean (daughter) was born May 16, 1753 [?June?]
George was born Feb. 22, 1755
Isabella was born Dec. 2, 1759
John was born Jan. 16, 1762
Richard was born April 22, 1764
Thomas was born April 22, 1770.

"Robert Brierly married with Elizabeth Bell in Harford County, Maryland. Children:
Anne married Isaac Harris
Elizabeth married Harvey Neil
Jane married Archibald Job
Thomas married Mary Lynch
Ellen married Samuel Wilson.

"John Brierly settled in Harford County, Maryland, about 12 miles from Bell Air; his stone house was still standing and occupied in (this was blurred but looked like 1888).
"Jane Brierly was born on the farm on Aug. 23, 1796; she married with Archibald Job on Oct. 8, 1816. Mr. Job was born in Baltimore, Md. on March 19, 1784. They left Pittsburgh in an ark, a house built on a flat boat, and floated down the Ohio River to Cairo, then cordelled up the Mississippi river to St. Louis where they spent the winter of 1820-21, and in the spring again Cordelled up to the mouth of the Illinois river, and up that river to where Beardstown was afterwards founded. Mr. Job entered a large farm and became a prominent man in his county. He filled a number of county offices, was sent several times to the Legislature; he raised a large family of sons and daughters, the men were all well to do and honorable citizens; the daughters were noted for their beauty, ability, intelligence and force of character. Harris Job a farmer lives near Capioma, Nemaha Co., Kansas. Archibald William Job, a farmer, lives near West Line, Cass Co., Mo. I spent four days in 1876 with Aunt Job at Ashland, Ills. She was very feeble in mind and body but rememebered perfectly the most minute incidents of her early life. She had boarded and befriended Abraham Lincoln in his early days of poverty.

Memoirs of Allegheny County, PA: Robert Brierly of Mifflin Township, Allegheny County, born 1840, son of Thomas and Mary (Lynch) Brierly. Lists children of immigrant John Brierly and Ann Jackman with birth dates. Robert Brierly, their eldest son, grew up in Harford Co MD, went to Allegheny Co PA in 1777 and secured a deed for land in Mifflin Township, later occupied by his grandson. Thomas Brierly, only son of Robert and Elizabeth (Bell) Brierly, was born in Mifflin Township 1800, died 1881, m Mary Lynch and had children: Elizabeth, Robert, Mary who m John Lyon, Adelaide who m William Cox, Emeline and Thomas.
On 29 April 1800 Patent of Bryarlys Dividend, Patent Record, Liber IC#N, folio 418: John and Elizabeth Logan conveyed Elizabeth's rights as an heir in real estate of her mother, Ann Jackman Bryarly, dec'd., to her brother Thomas Bryarly, who patented it under the name of "Bryarlys Dividend." Elizabeth Bryarly Logan d at Maysville, Mason Co KY between 29 April 1800 and 30 June 1801 when John Logan m2nd Mrs. Mary (O'Bannon) Thompson, widow of William.

The power of attorney from John Logan Sr to John Logan Jr is found in Deed Book F p 446, Mason Co KY. John Sr appointed his son John Jr to receive, recover in right of his late wife Elizabeth Briarly, in the state of Maryland, as heir or legatee of any person, 24 August 1801.
John Brierly served in the Rev. War and pension records offer additional information that were not provided with this information.
The children of John Logan and Elizabeth Brierly Logan were:
1. Joseph who m Mary Morris and went to Coles, now Douglas Co IL;
2. Sarah who m James Quaintance and lived Fleming Co KY;
3. John Jr. who m Ruth Smith and lived Fleming Co KY, & predeceased his father, line of John B. Moritz of Kansas City MO 1973;
4. Elizabeth who m John Higgins;
5. Nancy / Ann who m Thomas Treach;
6. Isabelle who m Enoch Cox and lived OH and IN;
7. Margaret who m Samuel Brierly;
8. Samuel who m Pheby Richards and lived Champaign Co OH;
9. Martha who m Walter Burges and lived Wayne Co IN;
10. Jane who m Obidiah Feagans;
11. Hannah who m Richard Higgins.
