Name change: Buchholtzer to Buchholtz to Beechwood
My gr-gr-grandfather was Jacob Buchholtzer, from Hommarting, France.Born about 1817, he arrived in Detroit, Michigan, in September 1837 and moved East to settle in West Turin, Lewis County, NY until 1865, when he moved his family to Osage Mission, Neosho County, KS (now St. Paul).
Jacob's four children of his second wife all used the name Beechwood from birth (born 1855-63).The four children of his first wife (born 1840-53) were baptized as Buchholz or Buchholtz (variant spellings) and later used Beechwood, as shown in their marriage records.
Has anyone ever encountered "Beechwood" in their family tree?It is the direct English equivalent to "Buchholtzer" (again, variant spellings). For ten years I have been researching all occurrences of the Beechwood (and Beachwood, in one family's case) surname throughout the U.S.
Anyone with any information on any Beechwood or Buchholtzer is urged to contact me.I am happy to share the information I have regarding Jacob and his descendants.
I also have information about the upcoming Buchholtzer family reunion, to take place May 17, 2002, in Hommarting, France.
