Most online sources indicate that John BUCKBEE sr. who married Ester WATERS and died 1707 in Westchester co NY was the son of Richard BUGBY/BUGBEE and wife Judith, 1630 immigrants to Roxbury MA. Richard died before 6 Dec 1635, as on that date Judith's second husband, Robert PARKER, was excommunicated "for scandalous opression of his wife's children in selling away their inheritance from them." That her first husband (and presumably the father of those chldren) was Richard BUGBY is proven by a later Roxbury record, the baptism on 27 Mar 1642 of "John Parker, the son of Judith Parker, sometime the wife of Richard Bugby who God took. (Contrary to some researchers' assumptions, this child was a PARKER; Robert Parker's will names a son John.) [For references and further data, see Robert Charles Anderson, "The Great Migration Begins...1620-33," Vol. 1, Richard Bugby (pp. 268-9) and Vol. III, Robert Parker (pp. 1396-9)]
So Richard and Judith did have children - and one could have been John of Westchester.
Bowen's "Genealogies of Woodstock Families" in "The History of Woodstock CT," Vol. 3, pp. 1 ff, says that the John and Joseph Bugbee who moved from Roxbury to Woodstock were sons of Edward of Roxbury - supposedly brother of the Richard who had died there by 1635. But this John, who died in Roxbury in January 1704, is not named in Edward's Nov. 1668 will, tho' Edward does name his son Joseph (as well as daughter Sarah, then wife of Richard Chamberlain). [See Anderson's "The Great Migration...1634-1635," Vol. II, Edward Bugby (pp. 456-9).] However, John Osborne Ausin, in "One Hundred and Sixty Allied Families," (Baltimore: Genealogical publishing co reproduction 1977 of 1893 edition, pp. 456-9) claims that Richard and Judith's son John was the one who moved to Woodstock - plausible as otherwise Edward would have named him in his will.
So it would seem that the ancestry of neither John BUCKBEE of Westchester county NY nor that of the John BUGBEE of Woodwstock CT is definitely proven. Can anyone shed any light?
