Hi: I have been checking Buckman's from KY that were in KS and then AZ. I have been checking an article in the Arizona Highways about Fort Rock a freight stop and mail station 65 miles northwest of Prescott AZ. There is a story about John J. Buckman 56,a KY born Farmer, who served in the Civil War with the 6th Regiment of the Kansas Volunteer Cavalry until discharged at Fort Scott, Kansas, in July 1862. He and his wife Sarah 39, b. IN (her parents KY & IN) along with Thad, and John J. b.KS in 1863 and another child, plus Mary born 1865 in AZ. I think Thad may have been a child from a previous marriage (no proof, I need to check 1860 KS census, this is where I am NEEDING some HELP). John J. Buckman Sr. died July 17, 1900 in Yavapai County's Thompson Valley. Thad Buckman the real hero of the fight at Fort Rock dropped from view after the incident, and his fate remains unknown unless someone can help me. If you have anything on Thad Buckman b. cal 1851/2 please let me know. M. H. Jones of Prospect, OR
