Good question. Not sure if this helps or not but Thadeus Buckman age 10 is listed in the 1860 census of Bourbon Co., Ks living withh Clement Buckman, age 38, farmer, and half brother of John James aka "Cook" Buckman. Thad and a Fances age 8 are listed last and are not children of Clement.
John J. Buckman was the son of John N. Buckman and Caroline Shanks. He was born ca. 1835 in Union Co. KY. In 1850 census he is listed as 18 and is living with Clement in Union Co.
Clement and family migrated to Bourbon Co., KS circa 1857.
I have no record of an earlier marriage but on 12 DEC 1860, John m. Sararh Russell at the Cumberland Pres. Church in KS. He and Clement both served in the KS 6th Cav.
Around 1864, the family went by Wagon train to AZ. Clement soon moved with his family to CA but John J and family are listed in the 1870 territorial census in Prescott.
Would appreciate any info on the battle mentioned.
Thanks.
