Hi Lisa,
I would like to share the information that I have collected on Joseph Buckman who was my great-great grandfather as well. The answer to the two question that you asked are Joseph had a brother George. They were both born either in eastern France (Alsace-Lorraine) or western Germany (Oberhausurgn). The borders changed depending on the war. Joseph came to the US on the ship Wm. T. Weaton from Bremen, Germany and arrived at the port of Baltimore, MD on Dec 8, 1847 at the age of 25. I don't have any information whether his brother George ever emigrated to the US.
I am related as follows:
Joseph Ignatius Buckman (m) Charoltte Burr
Ignatius Alonzo Buckman (m) Elizabeth Kalsch
Ignatius Alonzo Buckman, Jr. (m) Dorothy Weierich
Katherine Buckman (m) Donald J. Laughlin
Donald J. Laughlin, Jr.
You can contact me directly via e-mail at laughldj@earthlink.net. Hope to hear from you soon.
Don.
