Giles C. Buffin of Charles City County, early 1800
I am a descendant of Philip W. Buffin (b. ca. 1820), son of Giles C. Buffin. In the 1850 census, Philip was
living in Charles City County, but does not appear earlier. There is a Buffin road in the southern end of the
County, and Philips daughter Josphine married Thomas M. Ware, whose plantation "Monguys" was in Charles
City County on the southern side of Malvern Hill. Thomas Milton Ware was my great granfather.
I have seen suggestions that the Buffin name is of Huguenot ancestry, but do not find it as a name among
immigrant ship passenger lists. It also appears as an English name in some lineages, but those are remote from
the Ware connection. Giles C. Buffin, Phillip Buffin's father, was born about 1763, married Amey Spraggins.
I am a dead end for the moment (actually for about a month), on both the Ware and Buffin ancestries.
