"Reminicenses of Abraham Lincoln" edited by Allen Rice in 1888 contains a recollection by Congressman Daniel W. Voorhees of Indiana who discusses a visit he made to Abraham Lincoln in late 1862 with a Mr. and Mrs. Bullitt of Owen County, Indiana. They were there to convince the President to release Mrs. Bullitt's father, Rev. Henry Fenton Luckett, who was being held in the Irving Block Prison of Memphis Tennessee and had been sentenced to death for smuggling percussion caps to the enemy. Mr. Luckett was originally from Virginia, had lived in Sangamon County, Illinois from 1835 to 1850 and then in St Charles County Missouri.
Who were Mr. and Mrs. Bullitt? Their names are not given in the article. Am descended from Mrs. Bullitt's sister, Anna Mary (Luckett) Payne of St. Charles Co Missouri. Will gladly share what I have on this family.
