This may be completely off-track, but my
family (Smith) was from Scotland somewhere.
They tended to name children the names of
ancestors and I had an uncle John Bunyan
Smith. My great grandfather Neill Archibald
Smith married Margaret B. who we think was
Margaret Brown. In the 1850 census she was
45 yrs which means she was born in 1805.
There is a Margaret Smith (b.1782) who
married a Duncan Brown. This Margaret Smith
was the daughter of Mary Little(1758) and
Neill Smith (Revolutionary soldier)1756-1822
She was born in Kentyre, Scotland, d.1832
in Giles Co. Tenn. We are having trouble
going back farther. So many names are the
same that it makes it very hard to find
ancestors.
